One Kind House by The Soh Family

“My family created a unique haven comprising a family home,
an urban farm garden, a cooking school and a research-and- development lab. One of my favourite place is the R&D lab because when my children, Eva and Dylan were discovering new things,
I enjoyed that journey with them. The other place is the turntable downstairs where we constantly play records that we’ve collected on our travels, it’s a key part of what makes One Kind House: food, culture, music.

My mum bought this house from her siblings in 1985, after her parents passed on, and she kept it to fulfil a promise to them. My mum retired around the time I decided to become a stay-at-home dad. I knew my mum’s skills; she could teach, she could cook, she could plant. For the kids, we knew we had to prepare them for a drastically different future and we decided that as long as they could pass their exams at school, they would gain more value from coming here and hosting dinners with mum and spending time at the RD lab upstairs.“
