Stepping into Yasmin and Hiermy's home, we're greeted with the couple's signature black-and-white decor, as well as their twin boys - the most dapper two-year-olds we know.

Yasmin and Hiermy used to wander through IKEA showrooms on their dates, imagining their future dates. A few years later, those dates have come to fruition. The couple - now IKEA FAMILY members - moved into their four-bedroom Seng Kang appartment over a year ago with their identical twin boys, Mikail Izra. They have since given the distinctive look that is at once stylish, yet attainable and practical. We get them to spill their secrets.

Versatile Spaces

"I change things up, i don't like things that are stuck," says Yasmin of her living room that can be transformed in an instant. The sofa usually faces the television, but Yasmin and Hiermy move it aside when it's playtime for the kids, giving the energetic twins more room to run around.

Easy Chic

The HOGSTEN outdoor chair is a favourite of Hiermy's, and so is the cabinet under the TV (which is home to his gaming consoles.) The chair is paired with an ottoman, as well as a sheepskin rug thrown over - the comfort factor rivals any garden villa cabana.

Natural Living

The monochromatic furnishings are elevated with splashes of green from the many houseplants and throw pillows in vibrant hues. The result: a colour palette that's chich while homely. The house also gets plently of natural lighting, which brings out the strong contrast in the interiors for a bold look.

Play Time

Giving kids the room to play while keeping things neat takes work, but this family's up to the challenge. "I love space and the kids need space, too" Yasmin says. Which is why the kids' room stays uncluttered most of the time, with their favourite toys - at the moment, both the twins fancy a toy retruck - tucked away in kid-friendly shelves and foldable polyster trunks. But the little ones grow up fast, and Yasmin's already thinking of furnishing the room with fun bunk beds, the sort she always wanted as a child.

A Warm Welcome

The family demarcates areas in the house with furniture placement. By placing a bench and a rug by the door, they've turned the hallway into an area for the kids to leave their shoes and backpacks when they get home from school. The shelf abocve the bench also makes for a versatile decorative piece - sometimes adorned with the kids' favourite toys or other knick-knacks

IKEA smart designs let Hasrul Wira indulge in his hobbies within his quaint studio apartment.

Hasrul Wira's bachelor pad is the pad we all dream about. Slathered in comforting hues of orange, yellow and red, the 700-square-foot space is bedecked with multi-functional IKEA pieces that reduce clutter, support his hobbies, and give his apartment a smart, clean look. "I wanted my home to have a relaxed feel that wouldn't compromise on good design," says the 30-something-year-old, who recently acquired a unit in an environmentally friendly ‘eco-dominium' in Cyberjaya, Selangor. After consulting his friend Ahmad Nurfarhi Rosley, a designer, Hasrul made his way to IKEA to pick out the pieces. The self-styled "IKEA super fan" counts the AS-IS section one of his favourites in the store. It grants a new lease of life to furniture that are damaged, defective or discontinued – and many of the items in Hasrul's home were plucked from the AS-IS shelves.

To tie the rooms of his apartment together, Hasrul uses mirror re ections, amber tones and triangular decorations. "I love symmetry," he laughs – and it’s clear to see why. The conversation pieces of his living room are two doors repurposed from an IKEA cupboard – they now display his travel memorabilia, such as maps, postcards, train passes and photographs. A FABRIKÖR display cabinet, located in the same space, exhibits more of his passions, among them gurines from Star Wars and Voltron, a popular sci‑cartoon from the ’80s. To save even more space, Hasrul tacked LIXHULT cabinets to his living room walls. The cabinets are used primarily as storage, but also double up as décor – their colours match the upholstery and cabinets.

In the bedroom, Hasrul positioned the bed in right in the middle of the space. It allows him to create a path around the bed, curving around a STRANDMON armchair and a KNAPPER mirror all the way to his bathroom. "Avoid bulky furniture and consider how positioning in uences human movement," he advises. To make the space even more intuitive, Hasrul lays lanky rugs that act as directional markers from one room to another.

Besides collecting gurines, Hasrul has quite a green thumb – and the modest balcony in his apartment hasn’t stopped him from growing herbs such as basil, mint and thyme. His trick? "The RÅSKOG trolley," he says. "You can stack your plants vertically on it." Those herbs aren’t just for show. Hasrul is an avid chef, too, and uses them in his regular dinner parties with friends. Foldable IKEA chairs, which he hides behind and under furniture, give him extra seating options when needed. And the nal piece of the party puzzle is the versatile HIMMENE sofa-bed. "Sometimes, guests nd it hard to leave my apartment, and they’ll often sleep over on the couch," he smiles.
